We always love the NYT “classic plum torte” recipe with the purple Italian plums! I especially love the simplicity—she basically says, Just mix it all together.

One bowl recipes are a staple of comfort cooking. Fewer steps, fewer dishes, less stress!

Probably spaghetti sauce with Italian sausage -- that smell has made me fell like all is well ever since I was little (and I'm not even Italian). Then there was that one time I was so upset after reading Angela's Ashes that I made scones.

Yes! My grandmother's spaghetti sauce with meatballs and porkchops is that dish for me (let's skip the irony of a Jewish grandma's sauce filled with porkchops - she learned the recipe on line at the Italian butcher!)

Your mom's apricot jello mold with the sour cream falls into that comfort category for me. Recipes become traditions and traditions are always comforting.
