Having grown up in way Upstate NY, I love fall and winter—until February 1. Last February/ March, I tried to sit outside in the winter sun every day for 15-30 min. which is supposed to help. This year I’m going to buy a light box.

Also: read Wintering by Katherine May. I read it minth-by-month (Sept. -March) every year now—it’s wonderful.

In German the word "infusion" means saline drip. The father of a French friend stayed at a hotel in my hometown and asked for an "infusion" after dinner, thinking of a nice thé verveine. The look on the waiter's face was priceless.

Hi Britta! So great to hear from you! We all have had those weird cross cultural moments. Nothing worse than an American calling trousers "pants" in England...

Dear Elizabeth,

My bedtime routine is a cup of ginger Tumeric tea from Trader Joe’s or homegrown basil or peppermint tea. I also like to read a book (right now Lessons in Chemistry)before I fall asleep ….

To me it’s always hard when the days get shorter and when it’s dark at the morning alarm. My cat Zuni sleeps with me and purrs with putting his head on top of mine and it is very comforting…

Nothing better than a kitty sitting on my head. I don't know why my husband complains!

Dear Elizabeth, I remember that lovely and striking teapot from my life and friendships in Wilmington. So glad to see it has found a place with you. Enjoy your Halloween -- only in America!

I discovered verveine and also linden tea in France, and have always loved that there's a dedicated word tisane!
