Are the spices a modern French influence? Never thought of 5 spice powder or cloves. I definitely relate to the stuff is love theory.

Nice read. A good chicken broth is definitely on my short list although I probably won't get around to it before next winter. For now, I am into pickling and trying to recreate my father's "summer relish".
